Old Bloke On An Old Bike

The story of the restoration of a 1950s classic bicycle for a Land's End – John O'Groats charity ride in aid of Alzheimer's Society

15 Jun 2016: Stage 4

My 65th birthday – today, I become an official “old bloke”. But I really feel no different than I ever have…
Today we did 59.0 miles from Bickleigh to Cheddar, bringing the total so far to 221 miles: 21% of the total. We’ve now come through 3 counties: Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. Fortunately Somerset has fewer steep gradients – we climbed half as much today as yesterday.

But the weather was the worst I’ve ever cycled through – thunder and lightning at Taunton…

… and a deluge at Cheddar that set car alarms off.
Tomorrow we have to go over the Severn bridge – I don’t fancy that in a thunderstorm.
By the way it is now possible to follow our progress on Twitter (I never thought I’d find myself saying that). I am @oldblokeoldbike
