Old Bloke On An Old Bike

The story of the restoration of a 1950s classic bicycle for a Land's End – John O'Groats charity ride in aid of Alzheimer's Society

A very good day – much better than I feared. It started with yet another flat tyre, but my hosts at the Ghyll Beck B&B were really kind and drove me and bike to the nearby Escape bike shop (which I can really recommend). So I’m now rolling on nice new Gatorskin tyres – much better.

The ride turned out to be 67 lovely miles through Lancashire, Westmoreland and Cumberland, on almost deserted roads: even the A-roads were quiet.

Now I’m happily ensconced in a bar in Brampton writing this over a well-earned beer. Maybe I’ve earned a second one…
